Busy Month for the HWSFD

HWSFD members responded to more than 30 storm-related calls on the night of July 4 and remained on calls or standing by at the firehouse until nearly 3:00 a.m. The work continued throughout the following days as members surveyed roads, identified areas that were difficult or impossible for emergency vehicles to access, and provided information to the town’s Emergency Operations Center.

Throughout the storm response and recovery period, HWSFD members contributed a combined 174 hours of volunteer service to the community.

Even during a month filled with emergency responses, our members continued to participate in community events and maintain a visible presence throughout Harwinton. These events provide an opportunity for residents to meet their local firefighters, learn more about the department, and strengthen the relationships that make our town such a special place.

Our members also continued their regular training and equipment readiness activities. Training allows our firefighters to maintain their skills, become familiar with department equipment, and remain prepared for the wide variety of emergencies that may occur. Behind every call for service are many additional hours spent training, inspecting apparatus, maintaining equipment, and preparing for the next response.

The Harwinton West Side Fire Department is proud to serve the residents and visitors of Harwinton. We are grateful for the continued support of our community and for the dedication of our members, mutual-aid partners, town officials, public works crews, emergency services organizations, and everyone who assisted during the July storm.

As we move into the second half of 2026, HWSFD remains committed to working alongside Harwinton Ambulance, the Harwinton Volunteer Fire Department, and our regional partners to provide dependable emergency services to our community.

271 calls answered. Countless hours volunteered. One community working together.
