The Harwinton West Side Volunteer Fire Department is always looking for dedicated, community-minded individuals who are interested in serving others and becoming part of our team.

Volunteering with HWSFD is a meaningful way to give back to the town, learn valuable skills, and make a real difference in the lives of residents and visitors. Our members come from many different backgrounds and bring different levels of experience. Some join with prior emergency service experience, while many others start with no experience at all. What matters most is a willingness to learn, work as part of a team, and serve the community.

There are several ways to get involved. Members may serve as firefighters, EMS first responders, apparatus operators, or support members who assist with department operations, events, fundraising, maintenance, and community programs. Not every member has the same role, and not every contribution looks the same. Every person who gives their time helps strengthen the department.

New members receive training, guidance, and support as they learn about the department and the responsibilities of membership. Fire and emergency services require commitment, but they also offer a strong sense of teamwork, purpose, and pride.

Being a member of HWSFD is about more than responding to emergencies. It is about helping your neighbors, supporting your community, and being part of something larger than yourself.
