Make a Difference Behind the Scene

When most people think about joining the fire department, they picture firefighters responding to emergencies, operating fire trucks, or helping at the scene of a call. While emergency response is a major part of what we do, it is only one part of keeping the Harwinton West Side Fire Department running.
Behind every response, every training night, every community event, and every piece of equipment is a group of dedicated people working hard behind the scenes. From fundraising and building maintenance to organizing projects around the firehouse, our department depends on volunteers with all kinds of skills.
Right now, HWSFD is looking for new members who want to help support the department in ways that do not necessarily involve responding to emergency calls.
We are looking for people who may be interested in helping with:
Fundraising - Assisting with department fundraisers, community events, planning, organizing, and helping raise the money needed to support our mission.
House and Grounds Maintenance - Helping maintain the firehouse, property, landscaping, cleaning projects, and general upkeep of our building.
Day-to-Day Tasks - Assisting with projects around the station, organizing supplies, helping with events, and supporting the daily needs of the department.
Handyman Skills and Repairs - If you are good with tools, basic repairs, painting, carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, or general maintenance, your skills could be a huge help.
Apparatus and Equipment Support - Helping with non-emergency equipment checks, cleaning, organizing, and maintaining the tools and resources our members rely on.
You do not need to be a firefighter to join. You do not need to have emergency response experience. You simply need a willingness to help, a little time to give, and a desire to support your community.
The Harwinton West Side Fire Department is powered by people who care about making a difference. Some members respond to emergencies. Others help keep the department ready, organized, maintained, and moving forward. Every role matters.
Whether you have a specific skill, want to get more involved in the community, or are just looking for a meaningful way to help, we would love to talk with you.
Stop by the firehouse any Monday night after 6:00 PM, call us at 860-485-9234, or email membership@hwsfd.org to learn more.
You may not be the one riding the fire truck to an emergency, but the work you do behind the scenes helps make every response possible.
